(KTEN) — A new exhibit at the Choctaw Cultural Center explores the ongoing relationship between France and the Choctaw Nation that dates back to the 1700s.

The Okhvta Chito Okhoatal: Choctaw and French Transatlantic Legacies display is a collaboration with the Musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac and the University of South Alabama. It debuts on Saturday, July 6 and will continue for six months.

Highlights include a pair of bear paw moccasins; a man's beaded trade cloth legging; a bison hair-and-bead sash; shell and trade bead jewelry; and a painted hide.

The Choctaw Cultural Center is located at 1919 Hina Hanta Way in Durant and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The special exhibit is included in regular admission prices.
