BONHAM, Texas (KTEN) -- Spectators lined the streets of Bonham on Friday morning as the city's new focal point was hoisted into place after a 92-year absence.

Workers installed a new clock tower into place as part of the restoration of the Fannin County Courthouse to its original look.

The courthouse building dates back to 1888, but its clock tower was destroyed by fire in 1929.

The new clock tower was made in Kentucky, but it had to be broken down into five large pieces for the trip to Texas, where it was reassembled.

"When you come into Fannin County, the first thing you're going to see is that tower that's on top," said Fannin County Judge Randy Moore. "I'm just telling you, everybody I talked to today is excited!"

Newt Cunningham said he thinks the courthouse restoration will help drive the local economy.

"It come to fruition, and it's going to become a crowning jewel," he said. "It's going to draw business to the county."

After a series of delays, the courthouse project is expected to be complete by December.
