SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — With more jobs coming to Sherman, city staff is hopeful about boosting hospitality with the addition of a new hotel.

Sherman city council members met with developers at Tuesday's meeting to discuss plans for a Marriott hotel featuring the Springhill Suites and Townplace Suites brands. If approved, it would be built along US 75 at the Crossroads development in the city's southern sector.

"This would be a 250-door hotel, so it would be much larger than anything else we have in the city," said Sherman city spokesperson Nate Strauch. "It will obviously be much newer. It's been over 20 years since we have had a new hotel actually open in the city."

We're told the hotel will include a small conference center. Initial estimates value the project at between $30 million and $40 million.

The city council will meet again next Tuesday to discuss further incentives.
