SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — A small fire broke out Friday afternoon at the GlobalWafers America building under construction along FM 1417 in Sherman.

Police said debris and trash on the roof triggered the blaze.

"Thanks to the swift response of our construction crew, safety [personnel] and local firefighters, the flames were promptly contained and extinguished," said GlobalWafers spokesperson Stephanie Davidson in a written statement. "Workers were sent home, but they will resume work tomorrow."

There were no injuries.

Taiwan-based GlobalWafers broke ground for its expanded silicon wafer manufacturing facility at the end of 2022. It's the first such plant to be built in the United States in more than two decades.

The plant is expected to support more than 1,500 jobs when complete.
