SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — The Marine Corps career of Sgt. Joseph Condit Sr. took him to California and Japan, but his dedication to the country never took time away for giving back to others.

Condit, named as the latest Texoma Hero at a ceremony in Sherman on Friday, is no stranger to service. He's a third-generation veteran.

He said the decision to enlist came the summer before his senior year of high school was life-changing, and that he wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

"Being in the service was something that was a goal of mine for many years, and then my told older brothers," Condit said. "That just gave me more aspirations to look at doing that."

His duties overseas kept him busy. Condit served as a supply clerk and fiscal clerk, to name a few of his duties.

Even while busy overseas, he made time for those who needed it by joining the blood drive.

Now, in retirement, Condit and his wife Liz have opened their home to a Sherman Shadowcats baseball pitcher for the summer.
