ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) — This week, Ardmore Mayor Nancy Sjulin proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month.

Parks and Rec director Teresa Ervin accepted the proclamation on Monday, honoring the role the department plays for the city both young and old.

"Parks and recreation across the world really help to improve quality of life," said Ervin. "They bring tourism dollars in; we have ball tournaments that bring in 80 teams — that's two parents each child — just do the math, because they're going to hotels and they're eating at our restaurants, too."

Ervin said Parks and Rec will be hosting a series of July events to celebrate the recognition.
